I love knitting projects that are both stylish and practical, and this cable-knit poncho is a perfect example. I started knitting this piece from the collar down, and I’m so happy with how it turned out. The cable pattern adds a classic touch, while the variegated yarn on the border gives it a pop of color.

I created this poncho by first dividing the collar stitches in half. I placed one half on a spare needle and worked the first half of the poncho to the desired length. For the shaping, I increased a stitch at the sides of the cable pattern every front-side row. I also added increases at the side edges of the garment to create the perfect drape. Once the first half was complete, I knit two rows of garter stitch before binding off.
After that, I picked up the stitches from the spare needle and knit the second half in the exact same way. I then used a variegated yarn to add decorative flourishes and make the poncho truly unique.
