With its eye-catching red color, asymmetrical hemline, and versatile neck, this cardigan is designed to flatter your figure. It creates a sleek, lengthening silhouette that’s both modern and effortlessly cool.
This design uses some unique shaping techniques to achieve its special look.
Yarn & Needles
- Yarn: 75% Acrylic, 25% Wool blend
- Knitting Needles: Size 4 (US 6)
The Stitch Pattern
This entire cardigan is knit using the double seed stitch technique.
Knitting the Front Pieces (Make 2)
- Start: Cast on 3 stitches.
- Increase Section: Increase by one stitch at the end of every row until the piece is as wide as you desire. This will create a diagonal line.
- Shaping Section: To create the unique asymmetrical shape, continue knitting by increasing one stitch on one side and binding off one stitch on the other side at the end of every row. This will keep the total number of stitches the same while shaping the diagonal line.
- Opposite Shaping: Once the piece reaches your desired length, reverse the shaping. Bind off one stitch on both sides at the beginning of every row until the piece is completed.
Knitting the Back Piece
- Cast on twice the number of stitches as the finished width of your front piece.
- Shape the Hemline: To create the triangular shape at the bottom, decrease one stitch on the left and right sides of the two middle stitches every 6 rows.
- Continue this shaping until you reach your desired length.
Sleeves & Finishing
- Knit the sleeves using the raglan sleeve technique.
- Attach a button to the right neck edge and create a button loop on the left neck edge. This allows you to close the cardigan at the top.
- Add two fringes to both sides of the hemline for a decorative finish.
