How to Crochet the Blue Shawl

This shawl is worked from the top down, increasing at the edges and a central spine to create a triangular shape.

Row 1: Make a magic ring. Ch 3 (counts as first dc). Work 2 dc into the ring. (Ch 3, 3 dc) 5 times. Ch 3, sl st to top of ch 3 to join. (6 clusters of 3 dc separated by ch-3 spaces)

Row 2: Ch 3, turn. In the first ch-3 space, work (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) for the first corner. [Ch 1, skip 3 dc, work (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in next ch-3 space] Repeat * to * 4 times. Ch 1, skip 3 dc, work (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in last ch-3 space. Sl st to top of ch 3 to join.

Row 3: Ch 3, turn. Work (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in the first ch-2 corner space. [Ch 1, skip 3 dc, 3 dc in next ch-1 space, ch 1, skip 3 dc, (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in next ch-2 corner space] Repeat * to * 4 times. Ch 1, skip 3 dc, 3 dc in next ch-1 space, ch 1, skip 3 dc, (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in last ch-2 space. Sl st to top of ch 3 to join.

Continue in this pattern, increasing at each of the 6 corners, until the shawl reaches your desired size. The shawl will continue to expand with each row.

Finishing Touches

Square Motifs: Crochet individual square motifs and use a slip stitch or single crochet seam to attach them along the edge of the finished shawl. This adds a beautiful, decorative border.

Fringes: To create the fringe, cut yarn strands to your desired length. Using your hook, pull a strand through the bottom edge of the shawl and knot it securely. For a chained fringe, crochet a chain of 15 to 20 stitches and attach it to the edge.

I wish you happy crocheting, inspired by the beautiful blue!
