The Versatile Bolero & Vest

Looking for a simple project with a big impact? This two-in-one piece is the answer! It’s a single rectangular knit that, with a little creative styling, can be worn as either a cozy bolero or a chic vest. Its straightforward design makes it a perfect project for any skill level.

The Process

The beauty of this pattern is its simplicity. You begin by casting on enough stitches to match the width of your back and then work in a 3×3 rib stitch (alternating 3 knit stitches and 3 purl stitches). There’s no need for any increases or decreases, just continue knitting in the 3×3 rib until the piece is as long as you want it to be.

Once you bind off, you’ll have a perfect rectangle. To transform it into a wearable garment, simply fold the rectangle in half and sew up the two short sides, leaving an opening for your arms. The size of the armholes is up to you!

Styling It Your Way

The fun part is styling your new piece! You can leave it open and flowing, or you can add a single, stylish button at the top to create a closure. For a different look, try using a beautiful decorative pin to hold the front panels together. The simple rib pattern looks great with a variety of outfits, and the design is perfect for layering.
